The Return of Halo
Halo: Campaign Evolved brings the campaign that introduced Master Chief to a new generation, rebuilding the original Halo: Combat Evolved experience from the ground up while retaining the story and locations that made the original Xbox classic so memorable. Released in 2026, Campaign Evolved takes Master Chief and the AI Cortana back to the mysterious ringworld known as Halo. After the UNSC Pillar of Autumn crash-lands on the installation, the Chief must protect the surviving human forces while investigating the strange world around them.
What initially appears to be a mission against the Covenant soon becomes something much larger. The secrets hidden within the ring reveal a threat capable of endangering all life in the galaxy, forcing Master Chief and Cortana to uncover Halo’s true purpose.
For fans of the original Halo: Combat Evolved, Campaign Evolved provides a completely modernised way to experience the story that started the series.
Master Chief on the Halo Ring
The mysterious ringworld is one of the most recognisable settings in video game history. Campaign Evolved recreates the vast environments of the original campaign with modern visuals, updated cinematics and expanded gameplay. From enormous Forerunner structures and ancient facilities to the open landscapes where Warthogs race across the terrain, the ring provides a mixture of scale, mystery and danger. The Master Chief’s journey takes him through human and Covenant battles before the discovery of the Flood changes the nature of the conflict entirely. Cortana accompanies the Chief throughout the campaign, helping him navigate the installation and uncover the secrets left behind by the mysterious Forerunners.
The result is a setting that remains instantly recognisable to longtime Halo fans while being presented with an entirely new visual identity.
A Faithful Campaign With New Content
While Campaign Evolved is built around the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign, it is more than a straightforward graphical remake. The game introduces three brand-new missions as part of Operation: Meteorite, expanding the story around Master Chief and Sergeant Johnson. The combat sandbox has also been expanded with additional weapons, new enemy variations and vehicles, including the ability to pilot the Covenant Wraith. The original campaign has also been rebuilt with updated level design, improved wayfinding, modernised controls and enhanced cinematics.
This gives Campaign Evolved an interesting position within the Halo timeline: it is a return to the story that started the series, but one designed to incorporate more than two decades of Halo gameplay developments.
The Covenant and the Flood
The conflict between humanity and the Covenant remains at the centre of the campaign. Master Chief battles his way through Covenant forces including Elites, Grunts and Jackals as he attempts to protect the surviving UNSC personnel and uncover the secrets of the ring.
But Halo’s greatest threat is not the Covenant.
The discovery of the Flood transforms the campaign, introducing an enemy unlike anything Master Chief has encountered before. Their ability to infect living organisms and spread rapidly across the installation reveals the true danger contained within Halo. This progression from military science fiction to something far more mysterious and threatening is one of the defining elements of the original Halo campaign, and remains central to Campaign Evolved.
A New Era for a Classic Campaign
Halo: Campaign Evolved occupies a unique place in the wider Halo series.
The original Halo: Combat Evolved established Master Chief, Cortana, the Covenant, the Forerunners and the Halo installations, laying the foundations for the adventures that followed. Halo 2 and Halo 3 would expand the story into a much larger conflict, while Halo: Reach explored the events immediately preceding the original game. Campaign Evolved returns to that starting point while incorporating modern Halo mechanics and technology.
For a Halo poster collection, it therefore makes a particularly natural companion to the original Halo: Combat Evolved poster, while also sitting comfortably alongside posters celebrating Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo: Reach and the later adventures of Master Chief.
Whether you grew up with the original Xbox release or discovered Halo much later, Campaign Evolved represents a return to where the series began.
Designed for Halo Fans
The visual identity of Halo has always combined military science fiction with enormous alien environments and mysterious technology. Campaign Evolved’s key art reflects that combination, placing Master Chief within the vast world of the Halo ring. The artwork has the scale and atmosphere you’d expect from a modern Halo release. It also retains the instantly recognisable silhouette and visual language of Master Chief.
As part of a wider Halo wall, it can work particularly well alongside the original Combat Evolved design, creating a visual comparison between the game that started the franchise and its modern reimagining.
Design & Style
This Halo: Campaign Evolved poster uses the game’s key art as the main image, placing the Master Chief and the vast Halo environment at the centre of the design. The game title is positioned directly above the main artwork, creating a clear focal point while keeping the overall design clean and uncluttered. At the top right, the poster presents key game information including the developer, publisher, genre and original launch platforms. At the top left, six colour swatches are sampled directly from the main artwork. This provides a visual snapshot of the palette used throughout the game. Below the main image is a concise synopsis of the campaign alongside the game’s original release date, giving the poster some additional context without taking attention away from the artwork. The original launch platform logos are positioned along the bottom of the design, completing the layout and reinforcing the game’s place in Halo and Xbox history.
The result is a detailed but minimalist gaming print that combines striking Halo artwork with the information-led style used throughout the Gamers Gallery collection.
