Whether you’re a lifelong GTA fan, a retro gaming enthusiast or simply looking for distinctive gaming wall art, these minimalist prints are designed to celebrate the games, characters and worlds that made Grand Theft Auto a gaming phenomenon.

The World of Grand Theft Auto

Few video game series have had the cultural impact of Grand Theft Auto. What began as a top-down action game in the late 1990s evolved into one of gaming’s defining open-world franchises, repeatedly pushing the boundaries of what players expected from an interactive city.

At the heart of GTA has always been the freedom to explore. Players can follow the main story, discover hidden locations, steal cars, cause absolute chaos or simply wander through the city and see what happens. Alongside that freedom, Rockstar has consistently used its fictional cities to create satirical versions of modern society, filled with memorable characters, radio stations, businesses and stories.

That combination of freedom, humour, crime, exploration and unforgettable characters has made GTA one of the most enduring franchises in gaming.

Grand Theft Auto III – The Game That Changed Everything

Released in 2001, Grand Theft Auto III transformed the series. Moving the action into a fully 3D open world, Liberty City became a playground where players could explore streets, steal vehicles and become involved in a sprawling criminal underworld.

Claude’s rise through Liberty City’s criminal organisations introduced players to characters such as Luigi Goterelli, Joey Leone, Toni Cipriani and Salvatore Leone, while the city’s three distinct islands provided an enormous world to explore.

GTA III wasn’t simply another sequel. Its combination of an open 3D environment, freedom of movement, vehicles, missions and radio stations helped establish the template that countless open-world games would follow.

For many players, it was the game that made Grand Theft Auto a household name.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

The series travelled back to the 1980s with Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, introducing players to a colourful world inspired by Miami and the era’s crime films.

Tommy Vercetti arrives in Vice City after a deal goes badly wrong, eventually building his own criminal empire across the city’s beaches, nightlife districts and industrial areas. With its neon colours, tropical setting, memorable soundtrack and larger-than-life characters, Vice City developed an identity unlike any other GTA game.

From the Vercetti Estate to Ocean Beach, Little Havana and Viceport, the city became as memorable as the characters living within it.

Vice City remains one of the most beloved entries in the series and a defining game of the PlayStation 2 era.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

In 2004, Rockstar expanded the formula again with Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, creating one of the largest and most ambitious worlds seen in gaming at the time.

Players take control of Carl “CJ” Johnson, who returns to Los Santos following the death of his mother. What begins as a return home quickly becomes a sprawling story involving rival gangs, corruption, betrayal and CJ’s attempt to rebuild the Grove Street Families.

San Andreas went far beyond the city itself. Los Santos was joined by San Fierro and Las Venturas, with huge stretches of countryside and desert connecting them. Players could customise CJ, purchase properties, modify vehicles, fly aircraft and explore an enormous world filled with secrets.

For an entire generation of gamers, San Andreas became synonymous with open-world freedom.

Liberty City Stories & Vice City Stories

Rockstar also expanded its established worlds with two notable handheld adventures.

Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories returned players to Liberty City, this time placing them in the role of Toni Cipriani. Set before the events of GTA III, the game provided another perspective on the city’s criminal families and helped demonstrate that the GTA formula could work beyond the main console releases.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories similarly returned to the neon streets of Vice City. Players took control of Victor “Vic” Vance and discovered another chapter in the city’s history before Tommy Vercetti’s arrival.

Both games expanded the lore of their respective cities while retaining the familiar combination of driving, shooting, exploration and criminal missions that defined GTA.

Grand Theft Auto IV – Liberty City Reimagined

Grand Theft Auto IV marked another major shift in tone and technology.

Set in a heavily reimagined Liberty City, the game follows Niko Bellic, an immigrant arriving in America in search of a better life and the promises made by his cousin Roman. Instead, Niko becomes increasingly involved in the city’s criminal underworld.

Liberty City was more grounded than the colourful worlds of Vice City and San Andreas, with a darker story exploring ambition, betrayal, friendship and the consequences of violence.

The game also introduced a new generation of GTA’s satirical world, from television programmes and radio stations to the city’s pedestrians, businesses and constantly changing streets.

Episodes from Liberty City

The world of GTA IV was expanded further through The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony, two episodes that told separate stories within the same Liberty City.

The Lost and Damned focused on Johnny Klebitz and the Lost Motorcycle Club, offering a grittier perspective on Liberty City’s criminal underworld.

The Ballad of Gay Tony followed Luis Lopez, bodyguard and business partner to nightclub entrepreneur Tony Prince. Its colourful nightlife, extravagant characters and over-the-top action provided a very different tone.

Together, the episodes demonstrated how Rockstar could use one open world to tell completely different stories from different perspectives.

Grand Theft Auto V

Grand Theft Auto V took the series to Los Santos once again, but this time presented a vastly expanded version of the city and its surrounding countryside.

The game follows three protagonists — Michael De Santa, Franklin Clinton and Trevor Philips — whose lives become increasingly intertwined through a series of increasingly ambitious criminal operations.

Los Santos provides an enormous playground, from the city streets and luxury neighbourhoods to mountains, deserts and the Pacific coastline. The ability to switch between three protagonists added a new dimension to both the story and gameplay, while the game’s heists became some of the series’ most memorable set pieces.

Grand Theft Auto V also became the foundation for GTA Online, which expanded the world into an evolving multiplayer experience.

GTA Online

Since its launch, GTA Online has grown into a huge multiplayer world of its own.

Players can create their own characters, purchase properties, build criminal businesses, collect vehicles and take part in missions, races, heists and countless other activities. What began as a multiplayer component of GTA V developed into an enormous long-running online experience.

For many modern players, GTA Online has become their primary way of experiencing the world of Los Santos, creating a new generation of memories around the Grand Theft Auto universe.

GTA VI – The Next Chapter

The next major chapter in the series is Grand Theft Auto VI, returning players to the fictional state of Leonida and the iconic Vice City.

After years of anticipation, GTA VI represents the next evolution of Rockstar’s open-world formula. Its return to Vice City creates an exciting connection with one of the franchise’s most beloved settings while introducing a new story, new characters and a vastly expanded world.

As one of the most anticipated games in modern gaming history, GTA VI is set to become another major chapter in the history of Grand Theft Auto.
