Released for PlayStation 5 on 2nd September 2022, The Last of Us Part I is a ground-up remake of Naughty Dog’s original 2013 adventure. The story remains centred on Joel and Ellie as they cross a devastated United States following a fungal pandemic that has transformed civilisation. What begins as Joel’s assignment to escort Ellie out of a military quarantine zone develops into a much more personal journey as the pair travel across the country.
The PS5 remake rebuilt the original experience using Naughty Dog’s modern technology, with redesigned character models, environments, visual effects, animation and improved exploration and combat. It also includes the Left Behind prequel chapter.
This poster is based specifically on the The Last of Us Part I PS5 key art, giving the remake its own distinct place within The Last of Us collection.
Joel and Ellie Rebuilt
The Last of Us Part I retains the story and characters of the original game while presenting them through a completely rebuilt visual experience. Joel and Ellie remain at the centre of the adventure, but their appearances, environments and animations were recreated to take advantage of the PlayStation 5’s capabilities.
The result is a version of the story that feels visually distinct from both the original PS3 release and the later PS4 Remastered version.
The Original Story, Reimagined
The Last of Us Part I revisits the journey that first introduced players to Joel and Ellie, preserving the core story while modernising the gameplay, controls, visual presentation and accessibility features. The remake also includes Left Behind, the prequel chapter exploring Ellie’s relationship with Riley before the events of the main story.
For fans of the original game, Part I represents another visual interpretation of a familiar story, making it particularly interesting to display alongside artwork from the PS3 and PS4 versions.
Three Versions of The Last of Us
The Last of Us has now been represented through several distinct generations of PlayStation hardware, each with its own visual identity.
