Description
Super Metroid – A Defining Nintendo Adventure
Released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1994, Super Metroid continues the story of Samus Aran as she returns to Planet Zebes. After the events of Metroid II: Return of Samus, Samus is drawn back into the conflict when a Metroid hatchling she had encountered is taken by the Space Pirates. Her journey takes her through the vast and interconnected environments of Zebes, including familiar locations such as Brinstar, Norfair, Maridia and the depths of Tourian. As Samus explores, she discovers new weapons, abilities and equipment that gradually open up previously inaccessible areas.
Super Metroid is built around exploration and discovery, encouraging you to remember locations, recognise unexplored paths and return to earlier areas once Samus has gained the abilities needed to progress. The result is an adventure that feels as much about uncovering the world as it is about defeating its enemies.
The Return of Samus Aran
Super Metroid remains one of the defining appearances of Samus Aran, combining the mysterious atmosphere of the original Metroid with a much larger and more detailed world. Samus’ familiar Power Suit is joined by a growing arsenal of weapons and abilities, including the Morph Ball, Grapple Beam, Speed Booster and Space Jump. Each new ability changes how the world can be explored, making progression feel closely connected to discovery. The game also features some of the series’ most recognisable locations and encounters, culminating in a return to Tourian and a confrontation with Mother Brain.
For fans of the original games, this poster makes a natural companion to the Metroid poster and Metroid II: Return of Samus poster, representing the third chapter of the original 2D trilogy. There is also an alternative Super Metroid gameplay poster design, featuring a classic scene during Samus’ final battle with Mother Brain.
A Landmark in the Metroid Series
Super Metroid expanded the formula established by the NES original and Metroid II while creating the structure that would become closely associated with the Metroid series.
Its combination of exploration, atmospheric environments, environmental storytelling, upgrades and backtracking helped establish a distinctive style of adventure. Planet Zebes feels interconnected rather than simply being a sequence of levels, with every new ability potentially revealing another route through the world. The influence of Super Metroid can still be seen throughout the wider series, including later 2D adventures such as Metroid Dread and the modern interpretations of Samus’ earlier adventures.
For collectors building a set of classic Nintendo gaming artwork, Super Metroid also works particularly well alongside the individual Metroid 1–3 Key Art Poster Bundle.
Design & Style
This poster is built around the original Super Metroid key art, giving the artwork itself centre stage while presenting it in the clean, information-led style used throughout the Gamers Gallery gaming collection. The game title sits prominently above the main artwork, while the top-right section provides key information about the game, including its developer, publisher, genre and original launch platform. Six colour swatches sampled directly from the artwork are positioned in the top-left, creating a visual connection between the information panel and the key art. Below the main image is a concise description of Samus’ adventure on Planet Zebes alongside the original release date. Super Nintendo branding and the original launch platform information complete the lower section of the design.
The result is a minimalist Super Metroid print that retains the character of the original artwork while presenting it as a contemporary piece of gaming wall art.
