Tomb Raider Poster – The Adventure That Started It All
In 1996, Tomb Raider introduced players to Lara Croft, an archaeologist whose combination of intelligence, athleticism and fearlessness quickly made her one of gaming’s most recognisable characters.
Developed by Core Design and originally released for the PlayStation, PC and Sega Saturn, Tomb Raider took Lara across a series of ancient locations in search of the legendary Scion. From the lost city of Vilcabamba to the vast Egyptian ruins and the mysterious Lost Valley, her expedition quickly became something much more dangerous than a conventional archaeological adventure.
What made Tomb Raider stand out was its sense of exploration. Huge environments, environmental puzzles, traps, platforming and dangerous wildlife combined to create an experience that felt unlike anything else on the console at the time.
This Tomb Raider wall art celebrates that original adventure and the game that established Lara Croft as a gaming icon.
The Original Lara Croft
The original Lara was very different from the more grounded interpretation introduced decades later. Her distinctive silhouette, dual pistols and confident attitude immediately made her memorable, while the game’s atmospheric environments gave her adventures a sense of mystery and danger.
Lara’s expedition begins as a search for an ancient artefact, but her journey takes her through lost civilisations, underground ruins and increasingly dangerous environments. What initially appears to be a straightforward treasure hunt gradually reveals a much larger mystery surrounding the Scion and the ancient powers behind it.
For many players, this was their first introduction to Lara Croft — and the beginning of one of gaming’s longest-running adventures.
A PlayStation Classic
Tomb Raider became one of the defining games of the original PlayStation generation. Its combination of exploration, puzzle-solving and 3D platforming helped demonstrate what was possible in a new era of console gaming.
The game also established many of the elements that would become synonymous with the series: isolated ruins, hidden secrets, enormous environments, challenging jumps and tombs filled with traps.
Its influence can still be seen throughout the action-adventure genre, while Lara herself went on to appear in numerous sequels, remakes and reimaginings.
This poster takes you back to where that journey began.
