The World of Red Dead Redemption 2
Released in 2018, Red Dead Redemption 2 takes players back to the American frontier in 1899, long before the events of the original Red Dead Redemption. You play as Arthur Morgan, a senior member of Dutch van der Linde’s gang. After a robbery goes wrong, the gang is forced to flee across the country, searching for somewhere they can escape the law and continue living on their own terms.
What follows is a sprawling journey through the final years of the Wild West. The gang moves between camps, towns and wilderness as they attempt to survive against increasingly powerful law enforcement, rival gangs and a changing society that is steadily leaving their way of life behind.
From the snowy mountains of the opening chapters to the towns, forests, plains and swamps encountered later in the adventure, Red Dead Redemption 2 creates one of gaming’s most detailed and immersive open worlds.
Arthur Morgan
At the centre of Red Dead Redemption 2 is Arthur Morgan, a gunslinger who has spent most of his life with Dutch van der Linde and the gang. Arthur is fiercely loyal to the people he considers family, but as the gang’s situation becomes increasingly desperate, he begins to question the direction Dutch is taking them. His story is built around loyalty, friendship, survival and the possibility of redemption.
That makes Arthur an important connection between the two Red Dead games. While Red Dead Redemption follows John Marston later in his life, Red Dead Redemption 2 explores the people and events that shaped the world John eventually leaves behind.
The key art captures the scale of Arthur’s world and the dangerous life occupied by the Van der Linde gang, making it a natural centrepiece for a Red Dead collection.
The Van der Linde Gang
Red Dead Redemption 2 is about much more than Arthur alone. The Van der Linde gang is effectively the game’s second protagonist, with its members forming the foundation of Arthur’s life and the story’s emotional core. Dutch presents the gang as a family living outside the control of civilisation, while Hosea, John, Abigail, Sadie, Charles, Bill, Javier and the other members each have their own relationships and histories.
As the gang’s circumstances deteriorate, those relationships become increasingly important. Arguments, disagreements and changing loyalties gradually expose the tension between Dutch’s vision of freedom and the reality of trying to survive in a world that is rapidly changing.
The result is a story that feels both enormous in scale and deeply personal.
The End of an Era
One of Red Dead Redemption 2’s defining themes is the disappearance of the Old West. The game takes place in 1899, when railways, cities, industry and organised law enforcement are expanding rapidly. The freedom traditionally associated with the frontier is becoming harder to maintain, and gangs such as Dutch’s are increasingly out of place. Arthur and the Van der Linde gang spend much of the game trying to stay one step ahead of a world that is changing around them.
That theme connects Red Dead Redemption 2 directly to the original game. Red Dead Redemption takes place in 1911, when John Marston is living in a world where the frontier has changed even further.
Together, the two games tell a larger story about the final days of the American frontier and the people who struggled to survive its disappearance.
A Poster Inspired by the Original Key Art
This design takes inspiration from the iconic key art associated with Red Dead Redemption 2 and transforms its distinctive Western imagery into a clean gaming wall-art format. The game title sits above the main artwork, while the surrounding information gives the poster a structured, collection-friendly appearance. Six colours sampled from the artwork provide a visual accent, while key information about the game is displayed alongside the main image. Below the artwork, the poster includes a short synopsis and the original release date, with the original launch platform logos completing the design at the bottom.
The result is a piece that captures the scale and identity of Red Dead Redemption 2 while fitting naturally alongside other Gamers Gallery gaming posters.
Part of the Red Dead Collection
This key-art design works particularly well alongside the Red Dead Redemption 2 gameplay poster, giving you two different ways to represent Arthur Morgan’s story.
It can also be paired with the Red Dead Redemption key art poster and Red Dead Redemption gameplay poster to create a collection spanning both major games in Rockstar’s Red Dead saga.
The original Red Dead Redemption introduces John Marston and his journey across the frontier, while Red Dead Redemption 2 goes back in time to explore Arthur Morgan, Dutch and the Van der Linde gang.
With four different designs available across the two games, you can mix key art and gameplay-inspired posters to create a Red Dead collection with some visual variety.
