A Sega Beat ‘Em Up Classic

Released for the Sega Mega Drive in 1991, Streets of Rage introduced players to a gritty urban world controlled by a powerful criminal syndicate. With the city’s police force compromised and ordinary citizens left at the mercy of organised crime, three former police officers decide to take matters into their own hands. Axel Stone, Blaze Fielding and Adam Hunter set out to fight their way through the streets, taking on gangs, thugs and increasingly dangerous opponents in an attempt to bring the syndicate down.

Streets of Rage quickly became one of the defining beat ’em ups of the Mega Drive era. Its combination of responsive combat, memorable characters, colourful environments and one of gaming’s most celebrated soundtracks helped establish a series that would remain closely associated with Sega’s 16-bit console.

This poster celebrates that original game and the beginning of the Streets of Rage legacy.

Axel, Blaze and Adam

At the heart of Streets of Rage are its three playable characters. Axel Stone is a former police officer with a balanced fighting style, while Blaze Fielding combines speed and technique with her own distinctive moves. Adam Hunter provides a more powerful alternative, giving players different approaches to the game’s straightforward but satisfying combat.

Whether playing alone or with a friend, choosing a character was an important part of the Streets of Rage experience. The three heroes became instantly recognisable faces of Sega’s beat ’em up lineup and would continue to influence the series in later games.

Fighting Through Wood Oak City

The game’s story takes players through a series of urban environments, from city streets and industrial areas to more dangerous locations controlled by the criminal syndicate. Each stage introduces new enemies and challenges while steadily building towards the final confrontation. Streets of Rage’s simple premise works because the gameplay gets straight to the point: move through the city, fight anything that gets in your way and keep pushing forward.

The result is an experience that remains immediately recognisable decades after its original release.

The Beginning of Streets of Rage

Streets of Rage was the start of a series that would go on to become a major part of Sega’s gaming history. Streets of Rage 2 expanded on the original with new characters, refined combat and larger stages, while Streets of Rage 3 continued the story and introduced further gameplay changes. Decades later, Streets of Rage 4 brought the series back with a modern sequel that retained the spirit of the original games.

If you’re looking to build a complete Streets of Rage display, matching key art posters for Streets of Rage 2, Streets of Rage 3 and Streets of Rage 4 are also available, allowing all four games to be displayed together.

A Key Art Tribute to the Original

This design takes the visual identity of the original Streets of Rage and presents it as a clean piece of retro gaming wall art. The combination of classic Sega artwork and the structured Gamers Gallery presentation makes it suited to both dedicated retro gaming collections and more contemporary gaming displays.

For an alternative take on the same game, the Streets of Rage 1 Gameplay Poster focuses on the action and gameplay experience rather than the original key art.

You can also bring all four games together with the Streets of Rage Key Art Poster Bundle, featuring the matching key art designs for Streets of Rage 1, Streets of Rage 2, Streets of Rage 3 and Streets of Rage 4.
