Originally released in arcades in 1986, Out Run became one of Sega’s defining arcade games and one of the most recognisable racing games of its era. Rather than simply racing against another driver, Out Run puts you behind the wheel of a Ferrari Testarossa convertible and challenges you to reach the finish while racing against the clock.
The game is built around speed, scenery and freedom of choice. As you drive through colourful landscapes, each stage eventually reaches a fork in the road, allowing you to choose which route to take. Different routes lead towards five possible destinations, giving the game a sense of variety that encouraged players to return and try a different road each time.
